SEO niches: manuals

Sometimes you stumble upon a new topic that is worth to optimize for. Most big areas which were easy to work on are full of competition these days. But last year I have started to optimize for repair manuals and found only a handful of people really pushing that area. We have reached good positions for some solid keywords and I am happy with that one. While other work we have done resulted in positions over 20 which brings only minimum payouts, the manuals are my new niche.
Anyone with more hints out there? I would like to learn about other affiliate niches with only low competition and high payouts.
